We see normal people too.

I recently had a patient get upset with me that I didn't remember her when I took care of her earlier in her pregnancy when she came in to be monitored for decreased fetal movement. I can understand the natural human inclination to get your feelings hurt when you learn that you aren't "memorable" and the wounded look on her face was a good indicator of that. I tried to explain to her without being too weird or scary that it was a good thing I didn't recall her visit several weeks prior. I have a feeling if I could have pointed her in the direction of this blog the point would have been better made.

When pregnant with both of my babies, my OBGYN said I was his easiest patient to care for. The three minute visits with him after waiting in the lobby for 1 hr+ used to make me feel LESS cared for. But the babies and I were healthy!

Being memorable isn't always a good thing.

I was a little worried when the midwife who ended up delivering my baby (my doctor was out of town when I went into labor) remembered me from a trip I made to L&D about some bleeding at 27 weeks. I don't think I was blog-worthy, but it did make me wonder just what about me stuck out so much to her.

I just pointed my mom to your blog- she works in Maternal Assessment at an urban hospital and often regales us with similar stories. I always love hearing them and thinking- that would NEVER be me!

I have seen that look a few times myself.

I recently asked a patient whey she came in to triage and her answer was "the same reason that I came last time". At that point I played along, but had to look at my previous note from just a week before to refresh myself! I am not sure she caught on so I avoided the hurt look!

I was at a prenatal visit with one of the doctors at the practice I use. I had not seen this particular doctor as a patient before -- but had seen him at the hospital quite a bit while I was at work.

During the visit, he made the observation that I was a nurse. He then asked, "Which hospital?" In a bit of surprise (which I'm sure I hid well), I told him. He then went on to ask, "Which department?" I smirked when I told him, "The Birth Center". That very night, I was called into a laboring patient's room to help out -- and guess who was sitting at the foot of that bed?! I

I get a personal greeting from that doc no matter where I see him now! ;-)

I also meant to mention -- he ended up delivering me. How funny!

It's obvious you don't work in the labor and delivery where my daughter gave birth to twins. I would have seen a blog about it otherwise. The whole time we were at the hospital the doctors and nurses would point, stare and laugh and say that's the one.

I knew my delivery was bad (I was there), but when my OB looked at my son at my 6 week visit and said, "I will remember you and your mommy even if I live to be 100", I realized just how bad. She gave me her son's bowling trophy and said she wished there was a bigger prize.
